Berkeley, CA ? February 2018 ? UC Berkeley Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) presents All in the Timing: Short Comedies by David Ives this March ? an evening of four one-act comedies drawn from the collection of award-winning playwright David Ives, and directed, designed and performed by TDPS students. Ives?s witty, surreal style of comedy is both hilarious and philosophical, and will leave audiences laughing long after they leave the theater. The show opens Thursday, March 15, 2018 and continues through Sunday, March 18, 2018 in the Durham Studio Theater on the UC Berkeley campus. Tickets are $10 – $15 and can be purchased online through the TDPS Box Office at http://tdps.berkeley.edu/events/all-in-the-timing-short-plays-by-david-ives/ or at the door.

UBC’s Public Scholars Initiative will soon start accepting applications for its fourth year. A groundbreaking, award-winning scholarship program, PSI currently has 115 scholars from almost all faculties across UBC. Public Scholars enjoy (1) continuous academic support; (2) up to $20,000 financial support over 2 years and; (3) numerous professional development and networking opportunities.
If your work involves innovative forms of scholarship; engaging communities and other partners for a tangible positive social impact ; or more career-relevant forms of scholarship , you may also become a UBC Public Scholar. Killam Graduate TA Award?Deadline: March 9, 2018

In recognition of the valuable role that Teaching Assistants play in our programs, UBC annually honours 16 GTAs with the Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. Successful candidates will have met criteria that demonstrate a high level of respect for the candidate from undergraduate students and academic or course supervisors. Nominations are being accepted for those TAs that were appointed during the 2017-2018 academic year. Winners’ names will be posted on the Killam site in April 2018.

Steve Feng , PEng, has been named the new head of the UBC Department of Mechanical Engineering, effective May 1, 2018.
Professor Feng joined the department as an associate professor in September 2007 and was promoted to full professor in July 2010. From 2009 to 2015, he was chair of the Mechatronics and Manufacturing Research Group, and between 2015 and 2017 he served as the department’s Associate Head, Teaching. Feng is the recipient of a UBC Killam Teaching Prize and is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Before joining UBC, Feng spent 10 years as a faculty member in the University of Western Ontario’s Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, where he also served a one-year term as Graduate Chair. He holds a BS in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University and MS and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University.

It is our pleasure to announce that the Board of Governors has accepted the President?s recommendation to appoint Dr. James Olson as the new Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science for a five-year term, commencing March 1, 2018.
Dr. Olson, Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been serving as the Interim Dean since July 1, 2017. Prior to this appointment, he has served in several roles, with responsibilities for the leadership and strategic direction in the Faculty, including Associate Dean of Research and Industry Partnerships since 2014 and the director of two UBC research centres.

China Scholarship Council (CSC) Doctoral Scholarship?Deadline: March 23, 2018

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a Chinese government agency that provides scholarships to students applying to UBC-V or UBC-O to pursue graduate and postdoctoral studies. These scholarships support students across a wide range of disciplines.
For students seeking a doctoral degree at UBC, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) Doctoral Scholarship provides four years of scholarship funding (approx. $20,000 CAD per year) from CSC. The UBC graduate program will be responsible for providing funding to cover their student?s tuition costs (which may be additional scholarships or teaching/research assistantships) during the four years of CSC funding.
UBC graduate programs can make admission offers to PhD applicants from China that are either unconditional or contingent upon receipt of a CSC scholarship. An admission offer from UBC is required for the student to be eligible for the CSC scholarship.

Graduate Global Leadership Fellowships?Deadline: March 30, 2018

The Graduate Global Leadership Fellowships enable promising leaders from developing countries to pursue doctoral studies at UBC. The fellowships are to support international students showing outstanding leadership in humanitarian and development work in their home country. Two fellowships will be offered; each fellowship provides an $18,200 stipend plus tuition each year for four years.
Applicants must:
Hold a student visa at the beginning of the fellowship funding period
Be a citizen of a developing country (see list of countries on website, link below) at the time of application for admission
Be starting a PhD or DMA program at the UBC Vancouver campus in January 2018, May 2018, or September 2018
Be starting their first doctoral degree
The deadline for faculty to submit nominations ( student name and student number ) to admissions@mech.ubc.ca : 4:00 p.m. on Friday , 30 March 2018 .

2018 Canadian Student Health Research Forum (CSHRF)
Entering its 31st year, the 2018 Canadian Student Health Research Forum will take place on June 11 to 15 in Winnipeg. The aim of the CSHRF is to provide a venue for the networking, research exposure and recognition of Canada’s most promising research trainees in the health sciences.
