Woody Guthrie?s American Song , the second production in UC Berkeley?s Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies Main Stage 2012/13 season, opens November 9 in the Durham Studio Theater on the UC Berkeley campus. The work will enjoy not only a timely production (2012 is Woody?s 100 th birthday year), but a unique and expanded production under the direction of Peter Glazer, the musical?s original creator and director, who?s eager to see the show open up questions of class difference, labor, immigrant rights, and equity for our audiences. The musical premiered in 1988.
?Whenever I see this play, people tell me ?this is so timely.?? Glazer says. ?I think the reason is that Woody sang about such powerful topics that haven?t gone away. From the Field to the Table , the first production in UC Berkeley?s Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies Main Stage 2012/13 season, opens October 12 in Zellerbach Playhouse. The new work, created through a process devised by the Urban Bush Women?s Leadership Institute, will deal with issues around food justice: Who is allowed at the table? What is the real cost of food? How are culturally specific agricultural practices lost or de-valued in our society?
The production, led by Urban Bush Women Leadership Institute facilitator Paloma McGregor along with Amara Tabor-Smith of Deep Waters Dance Theater and Lisa Wymore of Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts?, will feature both dance and theater, inspired by the personal stories of the workshop?s participants and five weeks? worth of research on the topic. Menschen bewegen sich immer weniger. Fraunhofer-Forscher haben jetzt ein interaktives Lernsystem entwickelt, das auf spielerische Weise zu mehr Bewegung motivieren soll: Eine Sensormatte ist mit einem Aktivitätsmonitor kombiniert. Mit dem System können sich Kinder und Erwachsene fit halten und zu-
gleich Wissen aufbauen. Der Clou: Die Lösung zeichnet die Bewegungsintensität auf und zeigt sie sofort an. Das System wird vom 14. bis 17. November auf der Messe Medica 2012 präsentiert (Halle 10, Stand F05).

Gleich vier Auszeichnungen gewannen Fraunhofer-Institute beim diesjährigen»European Satellite Navigation Competition ESNC«. Bei der Verleihung am Donnerstagabend in München erhielt das Fraunhofer-Institut für Integrierte Schaltungen IIS den Regionalpreis für Bayern und das Priener Projektzentrum des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Materialfluss und Logistik IML den HPI-Spezialpreis. Fraunhofer-Portugal wurde nicht nur als Gewinner der Region Portugal, sondern auch als Gesamtsieger gekürt.
