Blumenkohl automatisch ernten  from Fraunhofer Presseinformationen  (2016/4/28 9:00)
Undichte Verpackungen vermeiden  from Fraunhofer Presseinformationen  (2016/4/28 9:00)
Students race low-emission cars in downtown Detroit  from UBC Mechanical Engineering  (2016/4/27 3:18)
Students from universities and high schools across North and South America raced futuristic, gas-sipping vehicles they designed themselves as part of the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas competition held in Detroit over the weekend, reports Detroit Free Press . UBC’s Supermileage team, lead by Mechanical Engineering student Nancy Chu, showed off a gas-powered urban concept car designed to have a small environmental footprint. For Chu, the competition is about addressing global warming and the environmental harm that cars can create. “Finding out what our activities have done to the world makes me extremely concerned,” Chu told the Detroit Free Press , “It’s important that we all become proactive about that, and this is kind of my platform to do that.” See more from Detroit Free Press , including photos of the event, here .
UBC Engineering alumni team up to help families cope with autism  from UBC Mechanical Engineering  (2016/4/27 2:30)
UBC has played a big role in launching companies like MacDonald Dettwiler & Associates, Westport Innovations, and most recently, Awake Labs, reports The Georgia Straight . Awake Labs has developed a product that helps families cope with autism. It?s led by UBC Mechanical Engineering graduate Andrea Palmer and has roots from an entrepreneurship and engineering course at UBC. The company?s lead biomedical engineer, Paul Fijal, who is also a UBC alumnus, spoke at the TEDxEastVan event held April 23. Bruce Beasley?s Rondo Sculptures Come to Life in?Berkeley Dance Project 2016?  from UC Berkeley Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies  (2016/4/26 6:21)
As UC Berkeley student dancers spin and leap onto stage this week, they will bring to life a unique collaboration, a year in the making, between sculpture, movement and technology. Renowned sculptor and Cal alum Bruce Beasley?s Rondo series consists of large scale elegant intersecting metal rings. The five sculptures in the series were displayed on the Berkeley campus in 2013 and one piece remains permanently installed near the Mining Circle. Says Beasley of the project, ?There was always a question in my mind about movement. Even though the sculptures themselves are static, there was always a little tickle saying, ?Movement. Think about movement.?? As he watched people interact with the sculptures, he began to wonder what it might mean to make a static form move, and what would it might mean to join sculpture with performance. Then Beasley was introduced to Theater, Dance and Performance Studies professor, choreographer and new media artist Lisa Wymore. The two began to exp ...
Digitalisierung in der Automobilproduktion  from Fraunhofer Presseinformationen  (2016/4/25 19:57)
Hannover Messe 2016: Mit flexiblen Drucksensoren Geräte stufenlos steuern  from Fraunhofer Presseinformationen  (2016/4/25 9:00)
Mech 2 students showcase remote-controlled firefighting boatsIMG_4613IMG_4201IMG_4094  from UBC Mechanical Engineering  (2016/4/24 1:52)
Fires last year at Port Metro Vancouver and on board a boat in False Creek highlight the need for firefighting vessels in a large port city. For their final design project, this year’s Mech 2 students were therefore challenged to create remote-controlled boats that could move quickly, navigate obstacles, carry cargo and deliver water to fires using water cannons. Each fireboat was required to cross the water and use a custom-designed water cannon to put out a fire. Twenty boats, each designed, built, and operated by a team of second-year Mechanical Engineering students, competed in a series of challenges on April 20th. The first round tested speed; the second, success at extinguishing a hypothetical fire on shore; third, maneuverability; fourth, success at extinguishing a fire on a floating vessel; and finally fifth, the ability to work with other teams to collaboratively extinguish a fire. The competition received media coverage from Roundhouse Radio and 24 hrs .   ...
Frank Treppe ist neuer EARTO-Präsident  from Fraunhofer Presseinformationen  (2016/4/18 23:24)
