The Multimedia Operating Systems and Networking (MONET) Research Group, led by Professor Klara Nahrstedt in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is engaged in research in various areas of distributed multimedia systems.

The Microscale Life Sciences Center is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) Center of Excellence in Genomic Science (CEGS). It resides at the University of Washington (UW) and includes investigators from UW and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) in Seattle. The MLSC is one of the first of three CEGS ever funded by the NIH NHGRI in the nation.
The MLSC or "life-on-a-chip" involves 10 investigators from the UW Departments of Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology, Laboratory Medicine, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Center started in August 2001, is funded for 5 years at $15 million, and may be renewed for another 5 years.

TechBridgeWorld innovates and implements technology solutions to meet sustainable development needs around the world. Through strong collaborations with partners in developing communities, we explore and enhance the role of technology in the globe, focusing on two main principles: sharing expertise to create innovative and locally suitable solutions, and empowerment of indigenous populations to create sustainable solutions. Through these efforts TechBridgeWorld creates technology accessible and relevant to all.

Takanishi Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Waseda University

The Science Integration Program was established in April 2005 under the direction of University of Tokyo President Hiroshi Komiyama. The Science Integration Program - Human, started as the first activity in the overall program, will target integration of knowledge within the field of life science relating in particular to scientific knowledge of the human organism from genome to organism level phenomena.

The UML Robotics Lab serves/supports/acts as:
- the lab for robotics courses taught by Prof. Holly Yanco
- the thesis work of Prof. Yanco's graduate students
- K-12 Botball and teacher workshops
- robot competitions such as the annual Trinity firefighting contest
- home to several research robots
- a place to design, build, and program mobile, autonomous robots

Taking inspiration and guidance from the science of animal and human behavior, our goal is to build cooperative robots that can work and learn in partnership with people. Not only an engineering endeavour, we hope to gain scientific insight into the mechanisms that underlie this human and animal competence, and to develop a science of human-robot collaboration. Given the multi-disciplinary nature of this endeavor, our research explores a wide variety of topics including:

- New sensing and actuator technologies
- Active multi-modal perceptual systems
- Natural language and gesture interfaces
- Expressive movement and skillful motor control
- Social learning
- Psychological modeling
- Human-robot interaction and collaboration

The Parasol laboratory is a focal point for research related to next-generation high-performance computing languages and systems and for the development of algorithms and applications that exploit these to solve computation and/or data intensive applications. Due to its application-centric focus, the Parasol Lab creates a uniquely favorable environment for multidisciplinary collaboration between systems and application developers.

The Neurobotics Laboratory is interested in building a robot-human closed loop system to alter the neural control of movement as a way to rehabilitate, assist, and enhance human motor control and learning capabilities. Our primary target population is individuals with strokes, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and other injuries that inhibit daily activities. We also target sports medicine, military, and entertainment applications.

Research topic of the laboratory includes humanoid robots, dynamics-based information processing, human figures, and medical robotics.
